Our History

In 1950, concerned parents and teachers, recognizing the need to assist some students with clothing and shoes, began the BCCPTA Clothing Bank. Although APS donates facility space, the BCCPTA Clothing Bank is not an APS program. The Clothing Bank does not receive funding from APS, and the Clothing Bank employees are not APS employees.

Sponsored by the Bernalillo County Councils of PTAs, the BCCPTA Clothing Bank is a non-profit organization whose primary objective is to provide clothing to any student in Kindergarten through twelfth grade who is in need. In meeting this objective, the BCCPTA helps keep children in school who might not attend because of their clothes and allows children to concentrate on their school work, not their clothing.

Each year, the PTA Clothing Bank serves more than 3000 students in the Albuquerque area. It is very important that each of these students is treated with respect and kindness and leaves the BCCPTA Clothing Bank feeling good about himself or herself. Adults who came to the Clothing Bank as children recount the positive experiences they had.
